How are prescriptions through APWI managed?
To initiate a prescription medication, you will need an appointment with our psychiatrist. After conducting an assessment and exploring your goals, you and the psychiatrist will discuss treatment options. If you are given a prescription, there are choices for how it is written and filled. Our psychiatrist can call it in to your pharmacy, give you a paper script, or send it electronically to your pharmacy. Schedule II medications must be sent electronically per Ohio law.
Some pharmacies do have their information linked to Ohio Health Information Partnership, and medications dispensed may appear on the medication reconciliation tab in Epic if you have a chart there. However, there should not be a diagnosis associated with the medication.
If you choose to use your insurance company to pay for the medication, information regarding the medication will be submitted to your insurance company from the pharmacy, but not from APWI. If you would like to avoid using your insurance, be sure to inform the pharmacy of this preference.
