Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) involve a legal contract between your employer and a clinical service provider (or agency that delivers clinical services). Access to an EAP is considered a benefit of employment, much like health insurance coverage. Clinical service providers, including psychologists, for a specific organization's EAP are not usually employed by the organization. Rather, they have an agreement to offer a limited number of sessions to an employee of the organization, and the organization agrees to pay the cost of these sessions.

Because of this relationship, providers who are contracted with EAPs are able to provide information to the organization about services that they are providing and employees who are using that service. While they are still required to protect patient confidentiality (e.g., they will not share diagnoses or the topics of conversation), your employer may be able to know that you have engaged with the EAP.

Providers at Akron Physician Wellness Initiative are not contracted with any EAPs. In providing care to our patients, we have no explicit legal relationship with any healthcare organization. Because of this, we do not have a session limit. We can see our patients for as often and for as long as needed. We also do not share any information regarding eligibility for services or utilization of services with any healthcare systems. You can thus rest assured that your confidentiality will be maintained, and that your ability to receive services from us will not be interrupted or prematurely terminated.
